It is a breed known for its strength and wonderful characteristics as a family pet and loyal friend. The following Standard of the breed is issued by the FCI who set the standards of many breeds through out Europe and their country of origin, this is what is used when judging or selecting each dog to the most correct breed type..

The Bordeaux in Ireland was for many years not recognised on the breed register, as in the UK it could only be classed as AVNSC  Import register, well that was until Libertia came to both live and show here! It was through our campaigning of individual shows, secretaries and the IKC, which is an FCI member, we were able to establish the breed in its own right. We also founded The Dogue de Bordeaux Club of Ireland (DDBCI) which was and continues to be an opportunity for breed enthusiasts to get together and share information, promoting the breed in a positive manner, feeding advise and information regarding health issues and ultimately rescue. Over the years with the club growing from strength to strength, we now hold two shows a year and have several competitions open to club members.

2009 saw the IKC hosting the European show in Dublin with the Bordeaux being the largest entry of any breed, an all time record.

Libertia are  one of the few Kennel Club Accredited Breeders in Ireland. We have made a very conscientious decision to health check our  dogs and purchase our imported dogs from kennels that  likewise health check their dogs, or breed to correct breed standard, to ensure that what we produce are both sound in type, temperament and health .

Every one of our dogues have their own individual personalities which as they grow and develop into adult dogues they show a great character giving both us and their owners many years of enjoyment. We believe that happy dogues are healthy dogues. All Libertia dogues have at some time or other been part of our Show-team, having immaculately turn out dogues that are healthy and correct to the breed standard is a must within the show world! For us it is a must for all our dogs, showing or at home!

Every dog regularly has a health check for a very early age as a puppy before they come to us, are bred by us, or leave us, and upwards throughout their adult lives. Those that show have a regular health check before and upon return as they travel with a current pet passport throughout Europe.

Every Libertia dog is micro-chipped we believe this is a positive way forward, for all dogs as a record of where they come form, who bred them and who the current owner is.
